Unique Features And Strengths
New sport climbing crag on Tarniţa hill, near Toplita. Variable quality basaltic andesite, with some sedimentary intrusions, which induce some potentially friable areas.
Description
This new crag is adjacent to the legacy Tarniţa crags, located below and to the left. The volcanic rock shares the same characteristics, and the overall aspect of the crag is gently overhanging, with some vertical and slabby sections.
Its direct southern exposure mandates climbing in the early and late seasons, as in the summertime, the only decent climbing conditions are either right after sunrise or, after sunset.
To that end, the general consensus is that the start of the season is quite early, around the end of February, up until late November, with June-August featuring the highest amount of solar radiation.

Access Issues
Accessing the crag can be done using the DN15 national road, and when arriving from Toplita, when exiting the municipality, where the residential area diminishes, a clear parking spot will be visible on the left side of the road. This is where you can leave your car.
Approach
Following on the parking spot, crossing the road, and joining the trail to the crag (on the other side) will also bring up a drinkable water spring. The trail is clearly marked with a red cross, and it leads to a panorama viewing spot, a bit higher than the crag. The approach is around 1km long and takes around 20-30 minutes (depending on your fitness level). The crag will be easily identifyable when reaching near the end of the trail.
